Carey was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in November 2007. After receiving aggresive chemo therapy, Carey was critically ill for many months due to her body being invaded by infections. She spent more than 108 days in isolation to combat these infections. It is now clear that Carey has bone marrow failure and the only alternative is for her to have a bone marrow transplant. This needs to happen as soon as possible.
We have searched locally (South Africa) for a suitable donor but we have not been able to find a match.

The only alternative was for us to do an international search - the funding for this is R300,000 and we need your help in trying to raise the funds - every contribution will make a difference!
A comfort and joy to Carey has been the tremendous response to her appeal and the love and support she has received. Johann played an important part in securing her and tending to her needs. As well, during this time Johann proposed to Carey whilst she lay in her isolation ward.
